The Longing For God

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”

~St. Augustine

People often wonder if God really matters. In this initial video for C4: Ignite Your Catholic Faith, Auxiliary Bishop Don Hying of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee shares his views on God's importance and relevance in our lives. Based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church (27)

What is man?

"God has planted in every human heart the hunger and longing for the infinite--for nothing less than himself. Only in God will we find the truth, peace, and happiness for which we never stop searching.

United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, p. 7

What is a soul?

The soul is the immortal and spiritual part of the person. God has made us a unity of body and soul. The human soul is not only the sourse of physical life for our bodies but is also the core of our spiritual powers of knowing and loving.

What is the difference between knowing and believing?

The Church teaches that the One true God, Our Creator and Lord, can be known with certainty from his works by the natural light of human reason.

What does it mean to believe in God?

A personal faith says, "I believe in God." This is an act of belief in the one, true and living God. It is as though we gather all that we are, and gratefully give our hearts and minds to God.

Listen and reflect upon this music video based on the Apostle's Creed by Rich Mullins especially the line: "And I believe what I believe is what makes me what I am. I did not make it, no it is making me."
